Description
Corriedale wool has a defined, even crimp and is smooth and easy to spin or felt. You can spin a fine to medium woollen, worsted or semi-worsted yarn. Corriedale will bulk after washing and has good elasticity. It is ideal for baby wear, woven, knitted, crocheted or felted garments.
Ashford wool sliver is 100% pure New Zealand wool. Our wool is grown on sheep farms in the South Island of New Zealand where the sheep graze on large grassy paddocks and are free from mulesing. We only use wool with good length that is free from breaks, has high bulk, brightness, low vegetable matter and is the correct micron.
The wool is washed using a standard aqueous treatment with eco-friendly biodegradable detergent. Then in our very own woollen mill in Milton, our staff ensure every process is to the highest standard. We start by dyeing the wool using ecologically-safe Oeko-Tex compliant dyes (detailed information can be found at www.oekotex.com), then steam dry, card, gill, comb and finally wind into bumps. The roving is then ready to use with no waste or preparation.

Getting started with Needle Felting
Needle felting is the exciting process of transforming wool into 3D objects, or adding details to wet felting, using a barbed needle.
The three main ingredients to Needle Felting is felting fibre, felting needle, and a felting surface – all available on Wool Craft.
Choosing a felting needle
We recommend you buy at least two of your desired needles because they tend to break when you first start out. Each type of needle performs a function:
-
- For quick felting, try the coarse needle or the super coarse needle
- For mild fine detail work, try the fine needle,
- For extra fine detail work, try the super fine needle
- For general work, try the all purpose needle
Choosing a Felting Fibre
We have many fibres to play with, keep the following in mind when choosing:
-
- Karakul makes for a good base to felt over – it is inexpensive and used to create basic shapes that can be felted over by your chosen fibre.
- Depending on your project, choose your favourite felting fibre
- Locks are often used for doll hair, we have dyed locks and undyed locks
- DO NOT buy superwash, this fibre does not felt
